After a massive support from Indians living in America, Trump managed to win the presidency. Although Indian Americans represent only about 1% of the U.S. population, they overwhelingly supported Donald Trump.
“I am thankful to Indian Americans and their HUGE support for me. I was behind, but just after they announced their support for me, I quickly surged in the polls. I dedicate my victory to the Indians living in America,” said Trump at a victory rally in New York City.
“My first foreign trip as a president would be a trip to India and I can not wait,” Trump announced.
A group of Indian Americans presented Trump with a garland of Indian currency. “We did not know what to do with Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes, after the government ban,” explained Prateek Sahai, an avid Trump supporter from Beyonne, NJ. “Someone came up with this brilliant idea of making a huge garland and present it to Trump”.
Trump visiting India in 2017 came as a surprise for a lot of Indians. Ranjeet Singh, a huge Trump supporter from Jantar Mantar area in New Delhi, who is also an expert of feeding Ladoo to Trump posters, said “I was pleasantly surprised to hear his announcement, I just hope I will get a chance to feed Ladoo to real Trump in person. Just like Trump, I can not wait either.”
